Nancy M. Snavely (Rhoads)
Nancy M. Rhoads Snavely, 61, of Hummelstown passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, in the PinnacleHealth Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in Harrisburg on October 8, 1955, she was the daughter of Isabelle Cameron Smith of Harrisburg, and the late Paul F. Rhoads, Sr.
Nancy retired as the Director of Personal Care of the Homeland Center, Harrisburg; and had worked as the Office Manager of Capital Foot Specialists. In 2013 Nancy took on the role of beloved Idgie to her adoring grandchildren. She was a graduate of Northeast Broadcasting School, Boston; and a 1973 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School. Nancy was a 17 year member of the Hummelstown Arts Festival where she served on the Jury Committee. She was a collector of Wade Figurines; and an avid dog lover. Nancy especially loved music, going to concerts and all things Rock ‘n Roll...”Rolling Stones Forever”! Her family meant the world to her, and those who knew her were aware that Nancy had a very caring soul putting the needs and concerns of others above her own.
In addition to her mother, Nancy is survived by her husband of almost 39 years, Alan W. Snavely, whom she married on March 18, 1978; two daughters, Lauren E. Snavely fiancée of Kevin M. Bellows of Hummelstown, and Greer L. Ocilka wife of Ian M. of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Quinn L. Bellows of Hummelstown, and Everett L. Ocilka of Pittsburgh; one brother, Paul F. Rhoads husband of Alba of Magnolia, TX; two sisters, Ann E. Rhoads of Hummelstown, and Alice J. Samsel wife of Donald B. of Camp Hill; many nieces and nephews; and her two Chihuahuas, Dexter and Morgan.
Nancy was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron R.”Bunk” Rhoads.
Nancy’s life will be celebrated on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to the viewings in the funeral home Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 6 to 8 PM, and on Friday from 10 AM until time of the services.
Those desiring may send memorial contributions to the Pinnacle Health Foundation, P.O. Box 8700, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8700, earmarking it for “vascular research” on the memo line.
Nancy’s family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and aides at PinnacleHealth Harrisburg Hospital for the care given to her.
