Obituary for Thomas E. Olson
Thomas E. Olson, 67, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, in the Fox Subacute of Mechanicsburg, with his loving wife and family by his side.
Born in Phillipsburg on November 2, 1950, he was the son of the late Albert and Katherine Maloney Olson.
Tom retired from the Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg, where he was an Inventory Manager. He was a 1968 graduate of Moshannon Valley High School, Houtzdale, and attended Lock Haven University majoring in Social Services and playing tennis. Tom was an U. S. Navy veteran serving as a decoder at the Pentagon during the Vietnam era. While at the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, IL, Tom had the honor of being a member of the Blue Jacket Choir. He was a member of the American Legion Post 998, Lawnton, and was on their pool team for ten years. Tom was a man so full of life and excitement who enjoyed playing cards, Happy Birthday boating, vacationing on cruises, spending time with friends in the Outer Banks, NC, and going with his family to Disney World.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Bollinger Turner Olson; a daughter, Angela C. Cowitch wife of Leonard of Palmyra; a granddaughter, Isabella C. Cowitch of Palmyra; two sisters, Maryann Hollands wife of Rob of Wilkes Barre, and Jane Jaffe wife of Ray of Hummelstown; a brother, Carl Olson husband of Linda of Naples, FL; nieces and nephews, Andrew, James, Ann Marie, Jeff and Brent; his loving Aunt Pat; and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Olson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 10 to 11 AM in Calvary United Methodist Church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg. A service to celebrate Tom’s life will follow at 11 AM Wednesday in the church with The Rev. R. Jeffrey Fisher officiating. Burial will be at the discretion of the family.
